After Pt. Nehru’s sudden death on 27th May 1964, who was a great helmsman; on 2nd June 1964 Shastriji was elected leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party. On 9th June 1964 Shastriji took oath as the second Prime Minister of India and filled the void. On being chosen to lead the nation as Prime Minister, the whole nation deeply admired and touched by his sagacious statesmanship, wisdom, simplicity, humility, national interests and welfare of the common people.
