Nanhe’s early education was at home. Maulvi Budan Khan taught his Urdu and other subjects. After eighth standard, Nanhe joined Harishchandra High School, Banaras and stayed with his maternal uncle Raghunath Prasad, who was Head Clark in the Municipality. Nanhe learned a lot from him that how he manages his big family within his meagre salary..

Nanhe was fond of swimming. Once he crossed flooded Ganges by swimming as he had no money to pay and also did not want to take help from his friends. He also refused to board another boat, which came to help him in crossing Ganges.
