For Shastriji, his commitments to the cause of the country were supreme and over and above his own family. He refused to give an undertaking to jail authorities for coming out to see his critically ill daughter but was then allowed. He lost his daughter before his reaching home and Shastriji left immediately for Naini jail after performing her last rites. On one week parole, Shastriji came to see his son, who was down with Typhoid Fever.
His condition was deteriorating with each passing day and the parole period was also near to end. When his son was running 106 degree fever and was on death bed being unconscious, though Shastriji could have requested jail authorities to extend his parole period, but he left home to go back to jail leaving his son on the verse of death.
